Saturday, July 1, 1995We decided to try the buffet breakfast rather than our usual seated breakfast. It was fine, perhaps we should eat both on occasion. The ship docked early in the morning at Ketchikan. We walked over to the visitor's center. The center was quite impressive. It opened just weeks earlier and had a fantastic exhibit. The exhibit covered Alaska in general and Southeast Alaska specifically. Everything from native cultures to flora and fauna to local industry was presented. A favorite of ours were the interactive dioramas with handles that made the displays move (but we are easily entertained). After spending several hours in the visitor's center we set out walking. There isn't much to Ketchikan other than shopping. It is like a Caribbean cruise ship port city... with the addition of Bald Eagles.Today was our first overcast day on the cruise. Can't complain though. We had five straight days of sunny, blue skies and warm weather. That's more nice weather than some Southeast Alaska towns see in an entire year.
That evening was our second and final formal night. We ate dinner quickly for the first time on the cruise. Our goal was to finish in time for the "musical murder mystery." Here our intrepid trivia team had its best showing of the cruise. We had the foresight and intelligence to draft Gary on to our team. That was about all we did, Gary did the rest. Our team missed first place by a scant one point. Then we went off to the evening's show. Our night finished with the gala buffet. Animals seen:
