Leaving Houston

I just sat down in my seat on flight 441 on Lufthansa from Houston to Frankfurt. It's drizzling, but the sun is shining - Houston.

The flight is 12 hours long [not quite! I miscalculated the time]. That will be twice as long as I have ever spent on a plane. Before I got on the plane, I was able to make good headway on a presentation I'm giving on Thursday [the presentation is on PMTS, the problem tracking system our client uses].

Now that I'm on the flight and have gotten started on my Thursday presentation, I'm pretty excited about the trip again. I'll be the only US-based non-manager the Indian resources will see in a while, so I expect/hope that they will feel free to ask me questions about whatever is causing them anxiety. It's a daunting prospect: to learn how to support an application when you will never be in the same room as the experts or the users. I hope to be able to provide some answers, or at least comfort, for their issues.

Security was not a problem. I was through check-in and security in about 10 minutes. The only difficulty was that I left my shirt and wallet in the security basket at the x-ray machine! Thankfully, I noticed just 4 minutes after I went through, so they were easy to retrieve back at the security gate.

I've not had dinner yet, so I'm getting a little hungry. I'll be happy when the flight gets off the ground so they can start serving some food.
