BP01: Hanalei Bay

B16: Hanalei Bay Resort
We had planned to talk at 8:00 am this day to organize our morning before being picked up at 10:00 am for our flight to Lihue, Kauai, but we got up early (again). Donna took a nice long walk on the beach (she walked to the aquarium!) while Rob napped. By 8:00, we were pretty much finished packing and ready for breakfast; Carol and Rebecca weren't, so we went by ourselves to Duke's for their breakfast buffet (very good! "Coconut syrup").

We met up with them at around 9:50 am to wait for the driver to take us to the airport. A *limo* arrived because they didn't have a lower class of car available (Becca was the "celebrity kindergarten teacher"). We of course had a very nice ride to the airport.

Once there, we waited in the chilly terminal while a large crowd gathered in line for our "open seating" flight to Kauai. We were in no hurry, so we waited to get in line until they announced the flight. Mom and Rebecca got on during pre-boarding, but Donna and I were the last ones on the 100% full plane! The short flight barely gave the staff enough time to serve a cup of juice before we landed.

We got our midsize car and headed counter-clockwise around Kauai to Hanalei Bay. It was a good thing Rebecca and Donna were navigating, because the roads were very subtly marked. Our concerns that it would be far from the water were allayed by the wonderful view of the mountains. We settled into our spacious condo and grabbed a quick lunch at the "Happy Talk" lounge. Rebecca and Rob walked down the steep road to the beach (good for snorkeling) before we headed for dinner at Bali Hai. We're learning how to relax here on slow Kauai!
