Along the Chain of Craters road (mile marker xx) in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, we saw this wonderfully twisted forms of lava. This type of lava is called "pahoehoe" as opposed to "aa" which is much more jagged. Quirks of the way this lava flowed and cooled caused these formations.
