Halloween - Imagined vs. Reality

I was really looking forward to the girls' involvement in Halloween this year. I figured at 2.75 years old, they would be old enough to enjoy dressing up in their costumes and really enjoy getting all that candy. Donna made them some princess costumes, which they tried on beforehand.

I imagined they would excitedly get on their princess costumes and immediately start playing in them (running around and twirling). We would then announce it was trick-or-treat time. They would dash to the door, and we'd lead them from house to house, where they'd knock, look cute, and get candy. We'd all come home and put away most the the candy, while they ate some gleefully.

Amanda: camera, no tirck-or treating
Elena: two houses

Reality was a little different, as it often is with two-year-olds.

First off, I had just gotten back Halloween from an unplanned trip to Pennsylvania. My mother's aunt "Dee-Dee" has just passed away. So that was a draining trip for me. This also happened to be the same time when Richard, my brother-in-law, and 3 of his kids (the oldest ones: Vera, Daniel, and Arthur) were visiting us from New Jersey.

We decided to go over to my other brother-in-law's house (Ray) for trick-or-treating and dinner. He just bought a new house, so it was nice to go see it, but I was pretty tired.

The girls were mostly keyed up about all the visitors and being in a big house to run around in. We did get Elena in her costume, but she still mostly wanted to run around. Amanda wasn't really interested, since she was busy taking pictures with a play camera: "OK! Smile! Say cheese!".

So it ended up that we did manage to get Elena to trick-or-treat at 2 houses, but Amanda never did. Neither of them were enthralled about being a princess in their costumes. They enjoyed the candy, but they didn't bring back enough to share with their dad.

Ultimately, the girls had a fun time, even if it wasn't the fun time I thought they'd have.

Brian:

I don't know anything about online casinos, but sorry about your Aunt Dee-Dee. I probably met her and Uncle Put-Put but don't recall specifics. However, their names do cross my mind occasionally (as does the old demo tune). BTW, I also have an Aunt Dee-Dee who is my mother's aunt. Her name is Doris, but for some reason the younger folks call her Dee-Dee. Must be a generational thing.
