I am feeling very refreshed. I'm sure that's part of the effects of the jet lag, since this would just be a late night in Houston after a good 5 hour nap.
I awoke at 6:00 this morning with a remarkable amount of light streaming in from the frosted glass bathroom window. I was also hearing persistent squeaks. It sounded like horribly squeaky bedsprings, but they persisted for a long time. It took me quite a while to realize it was a bird.
The shower was very nice. I was careful not to drink any water, so I used bottled water to rinse my mouth. The water did not get steamy hot but plenty hot for a comfortable shower.
There is quite a bit of honking outside on the streets. I'm understanding that horns are used much like turn signals might be at home - to alert other drivers. It is an almost constant sound from the road. It's not altogether unpleasant.

The hotel grounds are remarkable. There is no regularity to the hotel layout, and gardens are plentiful. Now may be the best time to document the surroundings, so I'll go do that now before I meet Laura for breakfast at 8:30. [I didn't do that then. I took more time getting everything ready for our first day at the office than I expected.]
